Description

BACKGROUND

The energy sector is experiencing deep transformation: urbanization, industrialization, growing energy demand, together with digitalization and increased customer centricity, are changing the sector paradigm. Transitioning rapidly to a renewable energy future, combined with improving energy efficiency, is therefore a double imperative both to ensure that the most state of the art technologies are deployed across the industry and to stave off catastrophic climate change while providing people with a better quality of life. From this social need emerge new opportunities to create shared value.

Enel is leading this energy transition in an Ecosystem perspective, driven by the Group’s Open Power strategy to open electricity access to more people, open the world of energy to new technologies, open up to new uses of energy, to new ways of managing energy and to new partnership to change the world.

Enel is part of the United Nations Global Compact Board and it is committed to concretely contributing to four of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), regarding access to energy(SDG7) and education (SDG4), contributing to the socio-economic development of the communities (SDG8) in which the Group operates and to the fight against climate change (SDG13). In addiction we committed on developing Industries, Innovation and Infrastructures (SDG9) and to foster Sustainable Cities (SDG11).

THE CHALLENGE

We aim at finding innovative and scalable solutions with the potential to bring radical change to the energy sector and related societal impact and we would like to implement these solutions with the best startups and social enterprise to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

“Women’s empowerment has five components: women’s sense of self-worth; their right to have and to determine choices; their right to have access to opportunities and resources; their right to have power to control their own lives, both within and outside the home; and their ability to influence the direction of social change to create a more just social and economic order, nationally and internationally. In this context, education, training, awareness raising, building self-confidence, expansion of choices, increased access to and control over resources, and actions to transform the structures and institutions that reinforce and perpetuate gender discrimination and inequality are important tools for empowering women and girls to claim their rights.” SOURCE: European Institute for Gender Equality.
