Enel Open Innovability Challenge | Charging stations are not public parking…

23/01/2019 - Enel

Challenge Expiration Date: January 30, 2019

Reward: internship in Enel X

Abstract

Imagine driving an electric car and needing to recharge the battery, you get to the charging column marked as available, but you find it occupied by a non-electric vehicle. Is there any way to avoid it? Or is there a way to identify the parking areas dedicated to recharging on the Enel X RechargeApp as ‘unavailable’ in the case of unauthorized parking?

If you think you have an innovative solution to solve this problem, the moment to propose it has arrived!

Description

THE PROBLEM

Sometimes, users of electric vehicles cannot charge their cars because the reserved parking area is occupied by a gasoline car.

Imagine driving an electric car and needing to recharge the battery, you get to the charging column marked as available, but you find it occupied by a non-electric vehicle. Is there any way to avoid it? Or, is there a way to identify the parking areas dedicated to recharging on the Enel X RechargeApp as ‘unavailable’ in the case of unauthorized parking?

If you think you have an innovative solution to solve this problem, the moment to propose it has arrived!

SCENARIO

As more charging stations are deployed in the cities and more parking spaces are reserved for those cars, more people start to use the reserved area. This is maximized by the low penetration of EVs we have right know. We know that this problem is happening in other countries as well not only in the south of Europe. Therefore, the use of the infrastructure is not maximize (we can get less value) and the customer charging experience is not satisfactory.

THE CHALLENGE

Enel X is looking for solutions that can solved the problem explained above.

Important note: the Seeker is interested in solutions that clearly provide a leap forward in comparison to the solutions currently available in the market.

Any proposed solution should address the following Solution Requirements:

  1. The information provided must be clear, intuitive and useful.
  2. The solution must be easy to use and engaging. The Seeker is open to creative ways to achieve this goal. This would ideally be supported with some evidence that the desired engagement can be achieved (e.g. survey results, case studies)
  3. The proposed system should offer the Seeker client “freedom to practice” or be available for potential licensing.

There should be no third party patent art preventing the use of specific equipment and materials for their commercial application.

This challenge provides contribution to the following SDGs:

SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy and costs

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
