Il Cherenkov Telescope Array è un progetto internazionale di astronomia gamma inserito nella roadmap del 2008 del Forum strategico europeo sulle infrastrutture di ricerca (ESFRI) e promosso a progetto landmark nel 2018. Una volta completato sarà il più grande osservatorio di rilevamento di raggi gamma a terra nel mondo, con più di 100 telescopi negli emisferi settentrionale e meridionale. Avrà la risoluzione energetica più elevata mai misurata prima e sarà 10 volte più sensibile rispetto agli strumenti esistenti.  Nella prospettiva della sua realizzazione (budget di circa 300 milioni di euro e circa 1500 persone coinvolte) sono stati appena pubblicati due bandi di reclutamento per gli uffici centrali del progetto, previsti  a Bologna, ai quali si aggiungono diverse posizioni postdoc, in Germania e negli USA. Office Assistant  e Procurement Specialist

CTAO is seeking an office assistant for its Bologna Offices in Italy. This role is intended for candidates belonging to Categoria Protetta (Law 68/99).
We are looking for a Junior Office Assistant who will provide support to CTAO Project Office.

Qualifications and Experience: CTAO is seeking a new graduate in Foreign Languages, Economics, Business Administration or other relevant field.

2. Procurement Specialist

For its Administration Department, at the future Headquarters in Bologna, Italy, CTAO is recruiting a Procurement Specialist.

As a member of the Administration Department, the Procurement Specialist will support CTAO Head of Finances in developing and implementing CTAO Procurement policies, and the CTAO Project Office in any construction or operations related procurement matters.

Qualifications and Experience: CTAO is seeking an experienced university degree preferably in Law, Economics, Business Administration or other relevant field with specific studies/experience in EU Procurement and Finances. A relevant experience in both Italian and German National Procurement Law would be a plus.

The successful candidate should possess:

  • Experience in Procurement principles, policies, standards & procedures, including commercial and price analysis, negotiations, and Procurement law, preferably both Italian and German National Laws
  • Experience in the establishment of industrial contracts
  • Experience in the establishing of an organizational, management and auditing Model pursuant to the Italian Legislative Decree 231/2001 will be considered an asset
  • Experience in EU Funding procedures will be considered an asset
  • Proactive and problem-solving mind-set

Postdoctoral position at the Georgia Institute of Technology on POEMMA.

POEMMA is a planned instrument to detect ultra-high energy cosmic rays and tau neutrinos from space. Georgia Tech makes major contributions to a number of leading astroparticle experiments: CTA, HAWC, VERITAS, IceCube, LIGO, and POEMMA. Theoretical topics addressed by faculty are in high-energy astrophysics, galaxy formation, cosmology and numerical relativity.

Requirements

We are looking for an outstanding applicant who has obtained, or is about to obtain, a Ph.D. in Astroparticle Physics, High-Energy Physics, Cosmology, or Astronomy. Expertise in instrumentation, in particular with photon detectors and readout electronics, is highly desired.

The postdoctoral fellowship offers a competitive salary and benefits. The position will be available from Spring 2019 (start date flexible) for one year renewable for up to a total of three years.

  • Participation in the development of a prototype for a small form factor detector for MeV gamma rays that can be launched into space on-board a mini-satellite (CubeSat)
  • Taking a leading role in the design and development of the read-out and data acquisition (DAQ) electronics for the prototype detector

  • Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or electrical engineering
  • Experience in the design and development of readout and DAQ electronics for detectors used in high-energy or astroparticle physics

University of Tübingen, Germany

The Theoretical Astrophysics section (TAT) at the University of Tübingen is inviting applications for:

  • 1 postdoctoral position, (Wissenschaftlicher Assistant / Research Assistant), starting from 1st of October 2019 with initial duration of 2 years which can be extended for up to 5 years.
  • 1 postdoctoral position funded by DFG, starting from 1st of October 2019 (or earlier) with duration of up to 3 years
  • 1 PhD position starting from 1st of October 2019 with duration of up to 3 years

Requirements

The successful applicant will carry out original research in projects focusing in the dynamics of rotating and/or magnetised neutron stars in relation to the emission of gravitational waves.

The research activities of TAT are related to the study of sources of gravitational waves with emphasis on the dynamics of neutron stars and black-holes. The group currently consists of four (4) post-doctoral researchers, three (3) PhD students and seven (7) MSc students.
